Course Summary

Textiles & Design is a creative and expressive subject where individuals can develop their creative, research and project management skills. Students work to explore the ways Textiles protect, comfort, influence, and inspire, plus develop their ability to construct, manipulate and design with Textiles. This course works to investigate textiles in society and develop a greater understanding of the significance of historical, cultural and contemporary trends while designing, practising with and utilizing textile materials, tools and equipment. Throughout the Preliminary and HSC components, Textiles and Design enables students to understand and appreciate the properties, performance and significance of textiles while working to develop their confidence and competence with the selection, design, manufacture and application of Textile Items.

Assessments

Preliminary involves two Preliminary Textiles Projects, a Textiles Sample & Research Task, and a Practice Exam. 

HSC involves a Design Sales Pitch, an Australian Contemporary Designer Case Study, Investigations & Experiments Report and an Exam, all while managing their Major Textiles Project (MTP).

What, if any, skills are needed?

While there are no prerequisites for this subject, being creative, loving a challenge, and appreciating the process of skill development and design are valued skills.
