Graduation and Term Break

by Mr T Kent

It is hard to believe we have arrived at the end of another term. Someone foolishly suggested earlier in the year (maybe it was me) that it would be a little less busy in Term 3. Looking back I am not sure we got that right. It has been a busy, action packed but positive term for students and staff alike. Thank you to everyone – staff, students and parents for a great term – your collective support and contribution to our school makes it the amazing place it is, and I feel very blessed to be part of this community.

Yesterday we officially farewelled our Year 12 students in their Graduation Ceremony, which was a very special event, attended by families of Year 12 and students from Year 6-11. It was a time not only to celebrate the individual successes of students, but to collectively honour each individual student who is graduating for the person they have become as a result of their time here at CCAS. We are very proud of our graduating class and want to wish them well in their upcoming HSC exams and for the exciting futures that lay beyond. As I shared with them yesterday, despite their imminent departure, they will always be students of CCAS, and we will continue to follow their ongoing life journey with interest.

I want to wish all our school families a safe and enjoyable break and look forward to all the students returning ready for the final term on Monday, October 9.

Uniform Shop Price Update

From Alinta Apparel

The Uniform Shop has published their revised price list, effective 1 October 2017. You will see that most items remain the same, however there is a small adjustment on a few items.

Uniform Shop PRICE LIST

The reason for the adjustment is due to CPI rising by 2% per year, the cost of raw materials has also increased as well as freight and wages. Alinta always attempt to absorb these increases, however this year they were unable to absorb all the cost increases.

Note: There was no increase last year and the last price adjustment was made in 2015.

No Surcharge for AMEX

from the Business Office

We will no longer pass on a surcharge fee to parents who choose to pay via AMEX.

American Express have reduced their fee to compete with MasterCard and Visa. We are to surcharge clients at the same rate we surcharge for other credit cards. Seeing as we don’t currently surcharge for these MasterCard or Visa we therefore can’t surcharge for American Express either.

Extension Class Story Books

by Mrs J Hughes

The Year 6 extension class have spent the last few weeks completing a Project Based Learning experience where they have been writing a story book for a Kindy child.

Students have had to complete market research, write the story, illustrate the book and then read stories to Kindy S. Both the Year 6 and the Kindy students have enjoyed the experience. Kindy S made some very positive remarks about the stories they heard from the extension class.

Reader's Theatre

by Mrs S Ibbott

This week some of the Year 1 students performed Reader's Theatre items to their reading group to finish off their reading for the term.

The students were amazing with their rhythm, diction and fluency - I am blown away with the abilities our children show at such a young age! A big thank you to Belinda Dungey for working with these groups and providing the costumes.

Colonial Day

by Mrs K De Martin and Mr T Cooper

On Tuesday, Year 5 celebrated the closing of their History unit of study with a Colonial Day.

Students came into school dressed in their best 1800’s costumes, some even carrying billy cans, spades and swags. After being allocated to their team, they set off to undertake a variety of tasks and activities. Damper was baked over a hot fire, kites were flown and landscapes were sketched with charcoal, all with great enthusiasm. Students participated in games such as pick-up-sticks, knuckles and marbles. The highlight however had to be the gold panning in the creek. There was mud to play in and gold to find. The students then paraded in front of the judges to show off their creative costumes. Dancing and the Gold Rush Olympic Games then followed after a relaxing lunch. A big thank you to all the parents who made the day possible! Fun was had by one and all!

Active Kids Rebate

from Adam Crouch MP, Member for Terrigal

$100 rebate to cover sport fees.

As part of the 2017-18 NSW Budget, I am pleased to advise that the NSW Government has launched the Active Kids Rebate.

This will provide a $100 rebate towards sports fees and registration costs for each school-aged child in NSW. The health of our children is a priority, and I hope that this rebate will make a real difference to enable parents to enrol their child in sporting activities.

The rebate will not be means-tested, which means every school-aged child in every family is eligible.

A full list of sports and activities will be finalised before the rebate commencing early next year. More details about Active Kids Rebate Contact Adam Crouch
