FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Enrolments, Year 12 and 2018
by Mr T Kent
I always enjoy welcoming new families to our school. We have welcomed a significant number of new students in recent weeks, with quite a few more joining the school for Term 4 and at the commencement of 2018. I am not sure exactly what is driving this, but I do know that the word of mouth recommendations of our current families are a big factor, for which I again thank you.
Although the current increase in demand has filled up classes and is creating waiting lists, I want to reassure parents of two things:
- We will not overfill classes – hence the waiting lists.
- We will not succumb to the temptation to let the school continue to grow and become just another large school here on the Central Coast.
I describe our school to families enrolling in the school as a middle sized school. We are large enough to be able to provide the specialised facilities, specialist teachers and full range of subjects necessary for a quality educational experience, yet small enough that children do not get lost in the crowd. We are also able to continue providing the nurture and care that each individual child requires - this is one of the hallmarks of Central Coast Adventist School. If we allow the school to grow too much, we will find it increasingly difficult to continue to provide this – and this is just not an option. Yes, we can accommodate a little more growth, but the scope is limited and we will never be just another big school.
As we approach the last term of the school year, we are busy planning for 2018, which includes managing the enrolment process. As you know it is normal practice for us to ask for a terms notice if families are planning to leave the school. Given the high levels of demand we are currently experiencing, we are asking that any families who are planning to relocate away from the school in 2018, to advise us by the commencement of Term 4 in line with this policy. This will assist in knowing if we can accommodate some of the new families who are currently applying. As always, our first commitment is to you, our existing families, but if you are aware that your circumstances necessitate a change in schooling your timely notification on this will assist us greatly.
We only have one week left of the term – a significant one for our Year 12 students as it is their last week of formal classes, and is filled with some significant events. Their Graduation Ceremony will be held next Thursday in the Sport Centre from 1:00-2:30pm. I am very proud of our Year 12’s and want to wish them all the best for next week and all of our support as they commence their HSC exams in a few week’s time.
